Website: http://co-opa.com September 2012, Vol. 12, Issue 9 President's Message: As forecast, last month was mostly a fine month for flying. Despite many last minute performer issues the Airshow of the Cascades at Madras Aiport was a big success. Currently the Pole Creek Fire has created problems with smoke and TFRs but that can be avoided with out much effort. Many thanks to Ogie Shaw for driving down from Beaverton to be our speaker last month. Ogie will drive down from Beaverton for us. It has been a while since a speaker has kept our crowd on the edge of our seats all night. Maybe more of us will lose as much weight as Don Wilfong has. So, as usual, let's meet at 6pm at the KBDN Flight Services Building for the usual tall tales, followed by our famous pot luck at 6:30pm. Then we'll have a short business meeting at 7pm. Key elements of the 20 year plan include extending the runway to the north by 1,000 feet, adding helicopter training areas to the north east corner and potentially siting a control tower near the current airport beacon. By the end of the month the new asphalt should be laid down and properly striped, thus ending several years of major construction on the runway and taxiway. The results so far sure look great, but I'm sure everyone will appreciate the lack of major contruction next year. Except the west ramp is now officially 'failed' and our hopes now turn to get that replaced. August Flyout(s): Ugh. Almost very day in the last month was a great day to fly, except our fly-out day. Thunderstorms were forecast, and present, so we exercised out superior judgement and stayed on the ground. Luckily the following week the weather was great, So N20757 and N6157R headed out to the Ontario Air Faire! In the air was not one, but two P-51s! Ontario is also home to the largest private warbird collection in the world and the only privately owned F-111. Many thanks to Ed Endsley for the photos on the this page. The silver P-51 is Mark Petersons. The gold plane in formation with him is a P-40. Newsletter Inputs: Send your newsletter tidbits to: gem@rellim.com
